Exploring The Arts in Costa Rica
Most of the culture and arts to be found in Costa Rica are in and around the capital city of San Jose.
The Centro Nacional de Arte y Cultura houses several performing arts centers as well as the Museum of Contemporary Art and Design. Aside from an impressive collection of Costa Rican and Latin American artists, the museum regularly gets traveling exibits and retrospectives by minor and major arists from around the world.
The Museo de Arte Costarricense is a smaller museum focusing on Costa Rican art and artists and how they've influencded and impacted art around the world.
The Museo de Jade Marco Fidel Tristan mainly features artifacts dating back a thousand years or more. There's an amazing collection of jade pieces as well as bowls, vases and other figurines. The lounge here is worth visiting for a drink before you leave to take in the wonderful view.
The Museo Nacional de Costa Rica is the museum you have to visit if your schedule only allows time for one. With plenty of gold and jewlery, your visit here will take you through all of Costa Rica's history. Note: This isn't a day excursion, 2-3 hours is generally all it takes tour the facility.
